BRIEF HISTORICAL DESCRIPTION

The department of Chemistry is the most recent department of the School of Sciences of the University of Crete. It started in 1985 with a program for postgraduate studies, whereas the department admitted its first undergraduate students in 1987.
The Chemistry Department is divided in five sections: Inorganic, Organic, Physical, Environmental and Analytical Chemistry, and Biochemistry. It has seventeen professors and accepts on the average fifty under-graduate and five post-graduate students per year.
